- Make sure all electrical toys bear a fire safety label from a nationally recognized testing laboratory.
- Never use space heaters in rooms where children are unsupervised.
- Don't allow children to play with electrical toys near water and make sure they know that water and electricity don't mix.

- Never overload outlets.
- Never put things in electrical outlets. Plastic outlet guards are a good idea.
- Check wires, extension cords, and appliances regularly for signs of wear.
- Don't run electric cords under rugs or furniture.

- In case of electrical fire, do not use water!
- Unplug the appliance or equipment if possible. If the fire is small, use a fire extinguisher made for use with electrical fires.
- If the fire is not small, leave the house immediately! Call 911 to get help.
